Drukhari – Dark Eldar - Mandrakes

2 kommentarer
What to say – lovely models! Why I did not include them back in 2011 when I started my Dark Eldar/Drukhari army?

Not a big fan of «Fine cast models» (these models would be such a god plastic kit), but the level of details is excellent.

The «painting» of the Mandrake in the 9th. edition Codex caught my eye. I wanted them dark and sinister –a darkness lurking in the shadows. Enough said, this is how they turned out (sorry about the quality of the photos, my camera had difficulties focusing - because they were some – dark…).

Until next time, cheers Ørnulv

It has been a while since my last post, but that does not mean I have not been productive...

It was time to add Wrack units to my DE Coven army. These models was great fun to build and paint! Lovely models. My Coven models have a slightly more pale skinn then the rest of my DE force, I guess it is all the stuff that the Heamonculus inject them with... And since they are constantly altered, it is only propper to add som blood showing they are under constantly "improvement".

Well, this is how they turned out

The whole batch

Acothyst with Electrocorrosive whip

Acothyst with Heamonculus tools

Wrack with Liquifier gun

Dark Eldar – Venom

1 kommentarer
So, it was time to add Venom number six to my army. This time I chose a “different” head on the gunner, so that it stands out from the other ones, making it easier for my opponent to single it out if I want to use it as a HQ transport etc.

Originally, I built all my Venoms with 2 X Splinter Cannons. This time I have magnetized it, so I have more flexibility, and when I need those extra points elsewhere. I have tried to match the colour pallet from back in 2011, and I am pretty happy with the result.

Venom

Old and New

What next? Moving to a new flat will take some time, but my Coven faction needs troops.

Dark Eldar - Talos

I love the «Dark Eldar» Codex, and the models! During the last couple of years, I have been expanding my army, adding new units to the original Pirate Skiff MSU style list I built and painted back in 2011. Well, it’s not fair to call that army an MSU army (only). It was a considerable force / number of models. But the new Index and new Codex gave so many options, so I have been steadily added units like Bikes and Hellions to the army. Now it was time to revisit my Coven fraction. Why, because they are awesome!

Having built 3 Talos / Cronos a couple of years ago, I decided to expand my Coven fraction. Hence, I decided to add 4 more Talos. I have been playing with the idea to field 9 of them, but painting all 4 of the new ones in one go, I am glad that I only did 4. Reason being that they take a long time to paint (all of those lovely details). I also magnetized them extensively, both Melee weapons and Ranged weapons, but chose to focus on the Talos variant this time.

As I have mentioned in previous posts, that I constantly struggle to match the colour scheme of my older models. My eyesight is not was it once where, and the colour range have changed. But I feel that I came close enough.

Enough said! Here are some pictures of the new models, showing different weapon configurations.

Talos with Chain Flails and Haywire Blaster

Talos with Ichor Injector and Splinter Cannon

All four of them

What next? Well, I have only 5 Venoms…

And I would like to expand my Coven fraction further so I can field them as a battalion (needing troops).

Drukhari – Dark Eldar Archon and another Succubus

0 kommentarer
Getting ready for the upcoming team event in September, I found myself short of some WYSIWYG HQ-options for my army.

I did not have time to wait for a shipment from GW (UK). And since I already have built and painted the standard Archon and Succubi models, I decided that variety was the way to go. Hence, I dived into the “bit box” once more…

I found that the body that I usually have used with heavy weapons had an ok pose and decided to add some “extra bling” trying to create an Archon with a unique look. This is how he turned out.

Unfortunately, I was out of parts from the Wych kits. Crises! Hmmm…. But, I did have left over´s from the Venom kits. The trick (for me anyway) was how to fit a model designed to hang outside a vehicle to a normal base, and to make a close combat weapon that could pass as an Archite glaive. A left-over part from the old city kits solved the first problem, and by combining two different “spears” I made a what I think will be accepted as an Archite glaive.

Looking forward to trying them out on the battlefield.

Dark Eldar Succubus, some Kabalite Warriors and an Archon upgrade

2 kommentarer
It’s been a while since I worked on my Dark Eldar army (2016). Having been occupied with my Ultramarines, upgrading my Tyranids and Imperial Knight army. I have started a project trying also to bring my Dark Eldar up to speed with the new Codex.

First out was adding a new Succubus to my army. A very beautiful, but very small and fragile model. I tried to paint her like the rest of my Wyches. It was difficult to mimic the pallet that I used back in 2011/2012, especially since the paints iI used for the skin tones back then are discontinued. But on the table, she blends in OK, I guess.

Not using her in a main army detachment, I wanted to keep her at a low point cost and went with an Archite Glaive and Splinter Pistol. Enough said, this is how she turned out.

Succubus

In this version of the Codex the unit champions are a standard “upgrade” that comes free with the unit. To single them out, I have used my "Trueborn" (Kabalite Warriors without helmet), but I needed 2 more to have one distinct "Sybarite" to go with each unit. I had 5 Kabalite Warriors lying around in my bit box and decided to make the 2 Sybarites I was short from them.

When I built the army, back in 2011/2012, I focused on Splinter Rifles (of course), Blasters, Dark Lances and Splinter Cannons for my Kabalite Warriors. Since the "Shredder" has become better and more point cost effective, for variety, I decided to arm the remaining three Kabalite models with Shredders. This is how they turned out:

Kabalite Warriors

I have several Archon models; one converted from a Kabalite Warrior and two converted based on the old Finecast model. Originally one of my Archons was kited out with an Agoniser. Since both the Huskblade and Venomblade in this Codex are very point cost effective, I wanted to re-arm him. But since the arms are so fragile I did not dear to use magnets. I therefore used a close combat weapon that could pass both as a Huskblade and as a Venomblade. I kept the Blaster (can be taken from the Index). This is how “Little Vect” turned out.

Archon

More to come soon. Cheers

Battle report Dark Eldar vs. Necrons

1 kommentarer
Maelstrom of War, Dawn of War, 1750p

Once each year, I face of Per and he’s Necrons army. Last time we played a game, I played a Tyranid horde army. Great fun, and a very close game. This time around I wanted to test my Dark Eldar Coven army, that I have ben working on the last year.

Dark Eldar deployed first. To the east (right hand side of the table) I deployed two Venoms (the one with the marker was a dedicated transport for a unit with 5 stock warriors), a Raider with 3 Grotesques and 6 Reavers Jetbikes. I centre two Venoms (the one with the marker was a dedicated transport for a unit with 5 stock warriors), a Raider with Homunculi and 3 Grotesques and 5 Scourge with Haywire blasters. In the river (centre) I deployed 8 Beast masters, and on the western flank, a Venom with 5 Warriors and 3 Reaver Jetbikes. In reserve, the Dark Artisan formation and a Razorwing jet fighter.

The Necron warlord deployed a Warriors unit and Destroyers on the eastern flank. In centre a unit of Warriors and in the river a unit of Scarabs. On the vest flank two large units of Warriors, a Destroyers with a destroyer lord and a unit of Wraiths. In reserve, Immortal’s with a Necron Lord.

Let the mayhem begin!

The Dark Eldar Coven army leaped and zoomed forward, opening a fire on the Destroyers and Warrior units. Although this Dark Eldar list is not tuned to be a “shoot army”, the firepower proved most deadly, but still was not able to score first blood. The Necron reanimation protocols again proved valuable. In response, the Necron gun line advanced in order to gain rapid-fire range next turn, and the Wraiths took up a front position behind a large rock formation in centre. The Scarabs surged forward in cover of the river, getting in position for a round 2 assault.

The Dark Eldar Coven responded with an all out aggressive movement against the Necron line. The Reaver Jetbike unit to the east flank speeded across the table trying to hug cover behind a rock formation. After a volley of shots, cutting down the destroyers and several warriors, the Beastmasters assaulted the Scarabs. The close combat was basically a stand off due to the Scarabs being fearless. The Necrons advanced and opened fire, ruthlessly cutting down the Reaver Jetbike unit behind their lines. The Wraiths took up position for an assault against the centre of the Dark Eldar advance.

To the east the Grotesques disembarked and closed in on the Warriors, supported by the guns from a Venom and their Rader. The rest of the army converged on the large Necron warrior unit in centre, and the Dark Artisan formation deep strike close to the Necron rear-guard warrior units to the east. The Scarabs and beat masters continued their battle of attrition, but the Beast masters started to loose there edge and numbers - fast! The Necron warrior unit to the east was killed, the Wraiths lost four of their number, and the centre Warrior unit was almost wiped out. To the vest the dark Artisan formation inflicted heavy damage on one of the two warrior units to the vest. The Necron army repositioned their gun line; In centre hugging cover and getting clear line of shots on the Venoms, to the vest jamming the dark Artisan formation, and the Wraith pulled back preparing an assault on the dark Artisan formation. Unable to inflict severe damage during shooting, the Wraiths assaulted the dark Artisan formation, wounding the Homunculi warlord and the Talos, taking some wounds in return. In centre the Scarabs got an upper hand on the Bestmasters, but unable to cut them down.

The Razorwing Jetfighter entered the vest flank. Supported by three Venoms they cut down a Necron Warrior unit to the vest. The Beat masters where aided by 3 Reaver jetbikes, and although it was a fierce fight was unable to kill of the Scarabs who proved almost indestructible. The Wraiths and the Dark Artisan formation continued their melee, unable to take one another out. The Grotesques to the east embarked on their transport and moved toward the centre of the battlefield. The Necrons failed to inflict damage on the Venoms or Raiders. In close combat the Scarabs cut down the last of the Beat masters, being locked in combat with the Reavers. The Immortal’s deep stroke on the east flank in a perfect position, gunning down a Venom.

75% of the dark Eldar Army converged on the Immortal’s. And it proved to be the right decision. The Immortals and their Lords where almost able to resist the brutal barrage from the Razor wing’s missiles, two Raiders, the Scourge and three Venoms! But in the end, they where destroyed. The Grotesques to the east assaulted and killed the remaining Warrior unit. The Scarabs killed of the last Reavers Jetbikes, and the Dark Artisan formation cut down the remaining Wraith. The Scarabs consolidated towards the objective to the centre.

The Dark Eldar secured every objective on the table, and in the process the Dark Artisan formation flamed the Scarabs to death. The Necron army had put up a good fight, but in the end it was obliterated.

End results:

Primary:
Dark Eldar 20p – Necrons 2p

Secondary:
Dark Eldar 3p (first blood, Slay the warlord and Linebreaker)

Dark Eldar Raider Disintigrator Cannons

3 kommentarer
Just a quick one for you.

During this last year I have built several Coven units.

Since many of the Coven units are geared for close combat, it’s not a default choice any longer to by the Dark Lance upgrade for my Raiders. Hence, I wanted the option to field them with the stock Disintegrator Cannons. Jørn helped my getting the gun mounts (THX), and I was happy to find that the Wrack kits I had included options to build Raider and Venom crews.

Two of my Raiders now have the options to field a Wrack gunner with Disintegrator Cannons.

What next? Some additional models for my Eldar Corsairs (moping up the extras…)

Dark Eldar Hellions

5 kommentarer
When the previous edition of the Dark Eldar Codex where realised, I bought almost all of the new models (kits) - including Hellions. But eventually I decided to go with a shooty MSU list, and traded them in for other models. Now, 4 years later, during the expansion of my Dark Eldar army, I decided on revisit units I had previously discarded.

The amount of options you have when building Hellion’s, and the narrative behind this unit, it just awesome. And of course I had to ad some parts making them a little more macabre. In my opinion, the Dark Eldar models surpass almost all other army’s in the GW range. And although many of the models are a little fiddly to build, and are full of small parts and details that makes it challenging (for my anyway) to paint, it has been a joy to paint these models.

The Beast Masters are very similarly to the Hellions, baring typically the helmets. The Beast Master models are Finecast Models and expensive. I therefore decided fore some variety to make them work as both. And since they appearance are close to Wyshes, I went with my traditional painting pallet. Anyway, this is how they turned out.

What next? My Coven army needs some upgrades for the Raiders…

Dark Eldar Voidraven Bomber

5 kommentarer
It’s been in storage since the week it was put up for sale. Since I recently have been expanding my Dark Eldar and Eldar Corsairs army, it was time to build and paint this gorgeous model.

This model was a joy to build and paint. I decided to attach the Void mine in a cargo-hold position, and of course tried to match the paint job of my other Dark Eldar flyers (and the rest of my Dark Eldar army). I magnetized the weapons so I can tailor the Voidraven Bomber to for fill specific battlefield assignments.

Behold – The Voidraven Bomber!

Voidraven Bomber with Void Lances

A potent array of engines

Voidraven Bomber with Dark Scythes

Voidraven Bomber with Missile-pods

The Voidraven Bomber is a much larger model then its cousin – the Razorwing Jetfighter; witch is only natural taking it´s armament into consideration.

Voidraven Bomber and one of my two Razorwing Jetfighters

What next? I am about to mop up the (fore the time being) last of my Dark Eldar and Eldar Corsairs projects. I hear the cackling and zooming screams from skyboards…

Dark Eldar - Razorwing Jetfighter

2 kommentarer
My second Razorwing Jetfighter was a somewhat desperate attempt to ad more punch into my army preparing for a tournament several years ago. It never got past receiving a black undercoat. Every time I opened my closet it has been gazing at me…

Recently I have added units to my Dark Eldar army and playing around with new army lists. An obvious fun list is a super fast army; hence it was time to paint it.

Again it proved difficult to achieve the same colour scheme as last time, but I think it is close enough for table view. This one is armed for infantry hunting after it has sent off its deadly missiles, armed with disintegrator cannons and a spliter cannon.

And then they where two

Dark Eldar – Haemonculus and some other stuff…

3 kommentarer
Both of my Haemonculus are equipped with Liquefier guns, and they where built before the era of magnets. So it was time to upgrade my collection with a new model, and try out the new kit.

I love the ”sneaky” pose of the new model. Full of details - it was great fun to build. Again I put a lot of work into blending the paint scheme between my former models and my new Grotesques; the most obvious difference being that I chose to paint the ”jars with elixirs” with my chosen ”powesupa colour” – orange.

I could not resist the temptation to put a mutilated body on the base.

Time to search for new victims to modify...

My Scourges where built before the Splinter Cannons got the Salvo rule, and before it was all about stripping hull points - instead of blowing vehicles up!

I converted 4 of the Splinter Cannons into Haywire blasters.

Trying to make everything coherent, I also painted the ”jars with elixirs” orange, not only on these 4 guys, but on all of my 15 Scourges.

Preparing for the TSB summer event in July, I found it appropriate to upgrade my object markers and adapting them to the Maelstrom of War missions.

I only had five of them, so I had to make a new one.

I fitted them on 40mm bases and added ”banners” that where numbered from 1 – 6.

What next? It is rumoured that my Dark Eldar have requested their Corsairs allies for some flamer backup!

Dark Eldar – Reaver Jetbikes

2 kommentarer
It has been a while since I built and painted “ordinary” Dark Eldar models. I like the idea of “Wyches” on bikes, with access to some cool weapon upgrades as well as combat drugs.

Reaver Jetbike with Splinter rifle and Cluster caltrops

It was a challenge to re-invent my old colour scheme, and my 15 Reavers are in fact 30 models (not counting the bases). I think the “packs” of 5 bikes each looks best with different heights on the stands, so I made each individual.

These speedy gladiators should be able to complement my new army concept; a really fast moving Dark Eldar army.

I have magnetized most of the weapons so I can field each unit with different weapons.

Parting shot.

Reaver Jetbike with Blaster

What next? Maybe some Eldar Corsairs to accompany them(?)
