Death Guard: Terrax Assault Drill

5 kommentarer

Legends or fully part of the Death Guard army? Time will show. Finally managed to finish this lovely model. As usual in the end I felt I just had to finish this one before being 100 percent happy. Looking forward to trying it out on the battlefield, but as we all know, it will probably be transfered to a part of a CSM detachment.

Really liked the old rules. The updated datacard is not worse, maybe even better. A shame that the drill is only Legends for Death Guard now, but maybe I can find a way to sqeeze it in.

Death Guard - Foul Blightspawn

2 kommentarer

One small step for mankind. A somewhat bigger leap for mr. Hauge. Finally managed to finish this fantastic elite choice from the not so fresh Death Guard codex anymore.

The background and rules are just fun, not least the container built in to his body, letting him spray his foes with plague gore. The unholy death's head grenade carried by the funny nurgling is also worth mentioning, making him and another character throw a blight or hyper blight grenade 2D6 times - once per battle.

Combined with mister Biologous Putrifier, a squad of Plague Marines and the Blight Bombardment strategem, these guys can dish out a massive amount of grenade hurt.

Chose a quite familiar color palette, although I plan on trying out the dirty white variant on the armour plating on other future painting projects. As you all know, the new GW minis are full of details - therefore quite time consuming. Hope to be able to paint other characters in a more assembly line like way to try to get projects done quicker.

Yesteryear's Production (Architecture of Aggression LVXIIwhatever)

I've been thinking about my almost complete lack of blogging last year lately. It seemed like I got nothing hobby-related done, but then I sorted through the "Camera Uploads" folder in my Dropbox and discovered quite a few WIP pics...

2018 did start slow. All I really did for January and February was to pop the right arms off my Chaos Bikers, magnetise them and add a set of Chainsword arms to the Bolt Pistol ones I already had. I remember several evenings of carefully cutting the swords off of the left arms they typically come on and gluing them onto right-handed Bolt Pistol arms.

It wasn't until May that I picked the knife and glue up again. I'd had my eye on the Wrathmongers/SkullReapers kit for a while, to replace the Bloodbound Blood Warriors I had used as Possessed with something more fitting. I included a Slaughterpriest model from an older White Dwarf as the unit champion, and stretched the kit a little with a pair of legs from an even older Possessed kit to bring the unit to seven models in total.

While I was collecting the models and bits I needed to build the Possessed, I came across several forgotten Raptors/Warp Talons kits. I built around twenty Raptors and ten Warp Talons in-between painting the Possessed, and drybrushed them up to my pre-ink stage after the Possessed were finished. They've since been sitting in a box since, but I'm currently in the process of adding Red Ink hoping to get them on the table soon('ish).

After having played several games with Missile Launchers on my Havocs, I decided I wanted them to have a little more 'Punch'. At the time, Lascannons cost the same number of points so I ordered an upgrade set from Forge World and re-purposed some leftover Chaos Space Marines. I also built a set of Havocs armed with Autocannons, but haven't found cause to finish those - yet.

Over the summer holiday in August, and into September, I had lots of fun building several of the new Sector Administratum ruins. I started with the ones from the Kill Team box but soon added a couple more, along with a few from the Sector Mechanicus series. I still have to mount the ruins on bases but hope to start painting these up once the temperature outside rise to the point where I can spray-paint. Seeing Ørn's ruins from a few months ago prompted me to cut and start preparing the bases, at least.

In September I added three squads of Cultists with Autoguns to my army, to be able to split my force into two Battalion Detachments. I would have added more if only the models hadn't gotten so hard/expensive to get ahold of by then.

I built and drybrushed a couple of Sorcerers with Jump Packs in October, and followed those up with adding a few Aspiring Champions and weapon specialists to the Raptors they're meant to support.

November saw me assembling three boxes of Munitorum Armoured Containers and lots of Plasma/Promethium Pipes, to add to the pile of unpainted terrain. I may still add a couple Sector Mechanicus kits, but then I should probably call it quits and actually start painting what I've got. I have a couple of ideas about magnetising the pipes, though, but I'm not sure how much work it's worth putting into it...

The Blackstone Fortress set, which you've already seen here, kept me occupied in-between Christmas-related activities during November, December and January.

All in all, it seems, 2018 wasn't as 'dead' a year as I thought when I started writing this. I just failed completely regarding write-ups here.

A thousand things to paint...

After painting up my first 2000 points of Tau, I needed a red break! There where as always a thousand things I wanted to paint, so I decided; Let`s paint some Thousand Sons!

I love these new models, and their tragic background, and I wanted to try out some gold painting with washes and highlights.

I have not decided if this will end up as a complete army or not, but I have now finished a ten-man squad. I want to paint some Exalted Sorcerers to go with this squad.

Word Bearers Dreadnought Multi-meltas (Architecture of Aggression LVI)

Just a quick tangent here...

Ørn has once again invited the Team to his summer house a couple weeks from now, and I wanted to give an old Formation another try alongside my Khorne Daemonkin. I'm sure the astute reader have already realised that I'm talking about the Mayhem Pack.

My three old Chaos Dreadnoughts haven't seen the tabletop in a long while, and in order to cut their cost I had to arm (hehe) them with something cheaper than the Plasma Cannons they've used in the past. I've been tinkering with a set of Dreadnought Close Combat arms too, but the Forge World Multi-melta arms I found were far quicker to prep and paint.

With that taken care of, I suppose it's back to edge-highlighting Crimson Fists...

Bloodthirster of... Magnetized Anger?

3 kommentarer
Sorry I missed my 'regular' timeslot last Sunday. RealLife (tm) kind of got in the way...

I'd like to be able to say I'll do better, going forward, but the Bloodthirster here marks the end of a nearly two-month 'hobby-spurt'. I seems I've run out of

The kit went together really well! The biggest... 'issue' was deciding which pair of arms to use. I wanted to be able to use all three Bloodthirster-variants - without having to buy three models.

I quickly figured out that the giant axe for the Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage was the most restrictive weapon pose-wise, and used the arms that fit that one. Magnets in the wrists and the various hands allow me to swap between the variants as the mood takes me...

Lots (and lots) of surface texture allowed for a relatively quick drybrush-up-and-shade-down (repeat until happy) technique, allowing me to finish the model over a couple weeks worth of evenings. An old and mangled Space Marine Bike was repurposed for the base, and painted my favourite shade of blue.

With nothing left that's ready to paint, I'll be building kits from my on-sprue-and-in-bag drawer. I suppose I can do the occasional show-and-tell, once I have a handful of built kits.

Until then...

Kytan Daemon Engine (from DreamForge Leviathan Crusader)

6 kommentarer
A few months ago ForgeWorld presented their new Kytan Daemon Engine, giving those with the Khorne Lord of War kit something worthwhile to use the torso for. A lot of excellent builds of the FW kit, as well as various conversions have since been presented on blogs an forums around the net.

For me, it was an opportunity to dig out one of the two Leviathan Crusader kits I'd acquired from DreamForge's KickStarter campaign last year.

I've left off a lot of the armour plates that's included in the kit to expose more of the mechanical details that would otherwise be obscured. The initial dry-fitting of the armour plates in the model kit quickly showed me that all they added a lot more bulk than I wanted.

I had originally thought I'd use the original torso, but find a beast or daemon head to replace the Crusader's original helmet. In the end, though, I ended up sawing the torso front off again (It was glued on solid!.) to fit the Ogre Kingdoms Longhorn head instead. It took ha handful of pins, some balled-up aluminium foil and a sizeable lump of Green Stuff, but I did get it into a position where the horns didn't end up getting in the way of the shoulder armour plates.

With the basic build done, I dollied up a Knight base, pinned the feet to it and glued all the moveable joints and pistons to lock in a suitable pose. The arms remain moveable and the weapons can still be taken off and replaced - just in case someone at ForgeWorld comes up with other weapon options for the Kytan.

After the pose was finalized, it was time to dive into the bitz-boxes and fit an assortment of symbols and sigils onto the model. I even replaced the gatling cannon barrel with a spare Juggernaut head. I could not find anything large enough to cover the shoulder plates, though, so I ended up taking my very first stab at detailing with plasticard. It took me a couple of nights of cutting strips, fitting and gluing them onto curved surfaces before scraping and sanding them to blend them together.

The paint job doesn't differ too much from what I've done for my Word Bearers. Black primer, heavy drybrush of Warplock Bronze followed by a lighter drybrush of Leadbelcher. The red is the old Red Ink from Citadel Colour, but I'v also treated the metal parts to several other Vallejo inks and washes too.

Next? I have a couple of projects under way already, to enable me to use a few of the formations in the Khorne Daemonkin codex. One's pretty close to completion, so make sure to look both ways before crossing the road...

Khorne Daemonkin Possessed (from AoS Blood Warriors)

1 kommentarer

It's that time of the week again, and quite the special occasion today too...

First off, the five 'Khornate Possessed' pictured above marks the completion of the Khorne Daemonkin army I plan on taking to Ørn's get-together in a complete of weeks. I should probably see about getting a test game or two in before then - provided that Real World demands will allow it.

The other milestone reached today, is that this is the five hundredth article published on the blog. During the seven and a half years (almost) that we've been doing this, you have been able to follow several army projects from their inception to their current state. The 'flow' of articles have always been a little unpredictable... Controlled more by the various team members' hobby progress and inclinations to take pictures and do write-ups than any overarching plan.

It is my hope that for the next five hundred articles, more of us will want to 'step up' onto the soap box, figuratively speaking, and show off their progress as well as share their thoughts.

I'll go pour myself a glass now, and go back to some of the oldest articles to remines... reminec... revisit a few favourite moments.

CSM Bike Squadron, second batch (Architecture of Aggression LV)

2 kommentarer

The incentive behind my latest productivity spurt is the Khorne Daemonkin Codex. This is the first book where I've been looking closely at using the new Detachments and Formations structures for building an army. I'm finding that while this will give you extra bonuses to the armies that they´re themed for, it also makes it harder than a normal Combined Arms Detachment to add in units that´s not deemed an integral part of the theme.

Anyway... In order to be able to use the Gorepack formation I needed a few more CSMs on bikes. To make sure I can get as much flexibility as possible out of these, I played around with magnets a bit to enable me to swap out the right arm of four of these with various melta-weapons.

This will give me enough models to field the two CSM Bike Squadrons needed to unlock the one to four packs of Flesh Hounds. It's almost a pity that I only painted up twenty of the mongrels...

Chaos Cultist recruitment drive (Architecture of Aggression XXXIX)

2 kommentarer
I have - for quite a while now - been using Crypt Ghouls to represent Chaos Cultists in my Word Bearers army, while slowly accumulating cheap Dark Vengeance Cultists. After finishing the Maulerfiends a few weeks ago, I've been prepping, building, converting and finally paining thirty-three all at once.

(When I get around to the rifle-armed ones, please someone stop me from doing them all at once!)

I originally used the ten cultists I already had painted up as reference when I started painting the new ones, but had to give them a touch-up to make sure I could mix them in with the new ones. Consequently, they're included in the pictures below...

Next? I've got a really big box next to me here, as I'm typing this...

Word Bearers Maulerfiends (Architecture of Aggression XXXVIII)

What's perfect alongside a big pack of Flesh Hounds of Khorne, when they've already have a Herald? (...or Chaos Lord, perhaps. I still havent been able to give Chaos: Khorne Daemonkin more than a cursory glance.)

A couple of Maulerfiends would extend the theme perfectly, I felt. I already have a Forge Fiend that I'm pretty much underwhelmed with. These two, on the other hand, can join the "Kennel Club" rush for my opponent's lines and add to the number of threats that have to be dealt with - sooner rather than later.

The idea is to enable my opponent to make the wrong choices during his turn. These two models, like their smaller cousins, can move fast enough to catch almost anything on the table.

Even though these guys really like to act like they're the biggest badest mofos in the valley, with some of the latest codex releases the facts of the matter is that they're a little over medium sized boys at best.

That means that I can't just throw these guys forward without regard for how intervening terrain will aid or hinder them or what the models directly across the table can to to them before they can get to where I want them. I'll still have to keep my wits about me to get the most out of these models too...

The Phoenician

3 kommentarer
Time to post some pictures of the first of The Horus Heresy characters that I have finished. It took a long time, but finally Fulgrim, the Phoenician is done.
This model has been a lot of fun to paint, the details on his amour is fantastic, and I like how his face is showing some of his daemonic side.

Painting a Primarch is not an easy task, and it took me a long time to start this project, it was a bit to frightening to take up the brush and put paint on this big character.

I painted some of his Palatine blades first, to get an idea of what to do with the purple and gold, and found out that I liked the the striking combination of purple mixed with white and the gold on the trims.

I normally do not like the bright colur, but for the Emperors Children I think this fits, and at this time in the heresy, when Fulgrim strikes down Ferrus Manus, they are slowly turning to the pink master - Slaanesh.

Next character to get some paint on him is Calas Typhon, update will follow soon.

Word Bearers Chaos Terminators - third batch (Architecture of Aggression XXXVII)

...and it's a whopper!

Alongside the Obliterators featured last tuesday, I've been working on a full squad of Chaos Terminators with Power Mauls and a few Combi- and Heavy Flamer. I've also completed the two models above to enable the use of two of the default five-man squads I've been using since I painted up the first batch of 'Annointed"'way back in the summer of 2009 and the smaller addition three and a half years ago.

Word Bearers Obliterators ...again! (Architecture of Aggression XXXVI)

Must... Obliterate...

Has it really been four years since I completed the previous batch of Obliterators? Back then, we still wrote in Norwegian, so an auto-translated version might be (slightly!) more accessible to our international readers...

(Apologies for the Omnissiah's repeated insults to both languages.)

This latest group of inductees into the Obliterator Cult brings the total number up to nine. That means I can max out the available Heavy Support slots in a Combined Arms Detachment with Obliterators. I'm sure everyone else at TSB is pretty exited about that prospect! :D

Until next time...

All is quiet on the northern front?

The unbuilt miniatures in their boxes stops their calls for clippers and glue.
The unpainted hordes on the shelves quits their cries for primer and paint.

Silence fall over the tabletops.
No cries of 'Havoc' or 'Let slip the Dogs of War'.

- + - + -

While it may appear like nothing is going on in the TSB bunker complex, this is not entirely true. I do have a number of projects under way, and there are rumours of ‘Works in Progress’ elsewhere too.

I’m painting a dozen Chaos Terminators and a third squad of Obliterators for my Word Bearers army. A total of fifteen 2+/5++ Sv models, to add to the fifteen or so I already have. The idea is to actually make use of all the unbuilt CSM models I have accumulated. Perhaps there’s even room for future games with an Unbound Word Bearers ‘Anointed’ army.

To familiarize myself with the hows and whys of using an airbrush, I dug out some old Mordheim ruins. These were built using 1.5mm thick plain card instead of the printed sheets supplied with the box, but we stopped playing the game before I got around to actually painting them.

Before even considering what colours to use, I figured I had to base the ruins. I grabbed a suitable-sized piece of mdf, a permanent marker and the electric jig saw. I glued the ruins to their new bases, added a little sand and left them to dry for a few days, when that week's schedule allowed me to fire up the compressor.

Of all the Loyalist Space Marines Chapters out there, the one I’ve always thought I might one day to paint has always been the Crimson Fists. Already on the flight back from Adepticon this spring, we talked about what we’d do for next year’s Team Tournament. (Yes, we’re going. Teras is taking care of it.) It was quickly decided that we’d each paint up a thousand points of a different Chapter of Marines. My choice was made in a matter of seconds: A strike force led by Pedro Cantor. Ørn already have his Ultramarines, so he’ll be making bases matching his own for the rest of us. Trond and Inger Helene have their own projects under way too, but I’ll leave any updates on those to themselves. For my own part, I’m still putting the models together and plan to paint them all together, conveyor belt style.

Could be there’s a few too many projects going on at once here, actually. If only I could get this summer vacation thing over and done with, perhaps I should focus on finishing off at least a couple of them before I start anything new…

Planned/upcoming projects include…

…the Traitor Guard armour recycling projects.
…the Basilica Veteris large ruined cathedral project.

Until next time...
