Roy´s Necrons – Cryptek

2 kommentarer
How could I help Roy construct an army who can field that many warriors backed by a Lord and a Cryptek, knowing the synergies they confer to his army?

Anyway, Roy´s first 2000p army is now completed, with this cool looking model. Congratulations Roy – looking forward (or not) to meet a Gauss gun line from hell.

Cheers,

A unit of six Canoptek Wraiths, because why settle for just three?

Roy's Necrons - The first batch of Warriors

Not much has happened since Adepticon 2017? Wrong! But not all of our group events etc. have been covered on our blog. Workload – possibly the most important reason. Since we now are 8 members, we should have been able to post more thought.

Anyway... Our most recent member, Roy, have spent the autumn painting a new army. He is not used to creating posts, and therefore this Christmas series of post is made on his behalf. Enjoy!

This batch contains thirty-six warriors, even if only half that number is shown above. There's also (at least) twelve more to go!

Battle report Dark Eldar vs. Necrons

1 kommentarer
Maelstrom of War, Dawn of War, 1750p

Once each year, I face of Per and he’s Necrons army. Last time we played a game, I played a Tyranid horde army. Great fun, and a very close game. This time around I wanted to test my Dark Eldar Coven army, that I have ben working on the last year.

Dark Eldar deployed first. To the east (right hand side of the table) I deployed two Venoms (the one with the marker was a dedicated transport for a unit with 5 stock warriors), a Raider with 3 Grotesques and 6 Reavers Jetbikes. I centre two Venoms (the one with the marker was a dedicated transport for a unit with 5 stock warriors), a Raider with Homunculi and 3 Grotesques and 5 Scourge with Haywire blasters. In the river (centre) I deployed 8 Beast masters, and on the western flank, a Venom with 5 Warriors and 3 Reaver Jetbikes. In reserve, the Dark Artisan formation and a Razorwing jet fighter.

The Necron warlord deployed a Warriors unit and Destroyers on the eastern flank. In centre a unit of Warriors and in the river a unit of Scarabs. On the vest flank two large units of Warriors, a Destroyers with a destroyer lord and a unit of Wraiths. In reserve, Immortal’s with a Necron Lord.

Let the mayhem begin!

The Dark Eldar Coven army leaped and zoomed forward, opening a fire on the Destroyers and Warrior units. Although this Dark Eldar list is not tuned to be a “shoot army”, the firepower proved most deadly, but still was not able to score first blood. The Necron reanimation protocols again proved valuable. In response, the Necron gun line advanced in order to gain rapid-fire range next turn, and the Wraiths took up a front position behind a large rock formation in centre. The Scarabs surged forward in cover of the river, getting in position for a round 2 assault.

The Dark Eldar Coven responded with an all out aggressive movement against the Necron line. The Reaver Jetbike unit to the east flank speeded across the table trying to hug cover behind a rock formation. After a volley of shots, cutting down the destroyers and several warriors, the Beastmasters assaulted the Scarabs. The close combat was basically a stand off due to the Scarabs being fearless. The Necrons advanced and opened fire, ruthlessly cutting down the Reaver Jetbike unit behind their lines. The Wraiths took up position for an assault against the centre of the Dark Eldar advance.

To the east the Grotesques disembarked and closed in on the Warriors, supported by the guns from a Venom and their Rader. The rest of the army converged on the large Necron warrior unit in centre, and the Dark Artisan formation deep strike close to the Necron rear-guard warrior units to the east. The Scarabs and beat masters continued their battle of attrition, but the Beast masters started to loose there edge and numbers - fast! The Necron warrior unit to the east was killed, the Wraiths lost four of their number, and the centre Warrior unit was almost wiped out. To the vest the dark Artisan formation inflicted heavy damage on one of the two warrior units to the vest. The Necron army repositioned their gun line; In centre hugging cover and getting clear line of shots on the Venoms, to the vest jamming the dark Artisan formation, and the Wraith pulled back preparing an assault on the dark Artisan formation. Unable to inflict severe damage during shooting, the Wraiths assaulted the dark Artisan formation, wounding the Homunculi warlord and the Talos, taking some wounds in return. In centre the Scarabs got an upper hand on the Bestmasters, but unable to cut them down.

The Razorwing Jetfighter entered the vest flank. Supported by three Venoms they cut down a Necron Warrior unit to the vest. The Beat masters where aided by 3 Reaver jetbikes, and although it was a fierce fight was unable to kill of the Scarabs who proved almost indestructible. The Wraiths and the Dark Artisan formation continued their melee, unable to take one another out. The Grotesques to the east embarked on their transport and moved toward the centre of the battlefield. The Necrons failed to inflict damage on the Venoms or Raiders. In close combat the Scarabs cut down the last of the Beat masters, being locked in combat with the Reavers. The Immortal’s deep stroke on the east flank in a perfect position, gunning down a Venom.

75% of the dark Eldar Army converged on the Immortal’s. And it proved to be the right decision. The Immortals and their Lords where almost able to resist the brutal barrage from the Razor wing’s missiles, two Raiders, the Scourge and three Venoms! But in the end, they where destroyed. The Grotesques to the east assaulted and killed the remaining Warrior unit. The Scarabs killed of the last Reavers Jetbikes, and the Dark Artisan formation cut down the remaining Wraith. The Scarabs consolidated towards the objective to the centre.

The Dark Eldar secured every objective on the table, and in the process the Dark Artisan formation flamed the Scarabs to death. The Necron army had put up a good fight, but in the end it was obliterated.

End results:

Primary:
Dark Eldar 20p – Necrons 2p

Secondary:
Dark Eldar 3p (first blood, Slay the warlord and Linebreaker)

Prima Nocte in the House of Hawkshroud

The engines of the Mechanicus lander was long lost in the pale blue sky as the the sun crested the distant horizon, but the dust it had left behind was only just starting to settle down. Hugh de Bracy marched down onto the red sandstone flats ahead of the four Knights accompanying him. The signal strength of the distress beacon from the explorator team was increasing steadily. They would reach the magos and his team within the hour.

+ + + SIGNAL LOST + + +

'My Baron..?'
It was de Bois-Guilbert. He'd registered the sudden cut-off too.
'Line abreast, sirs!' De Bracy interrupted the Castigator's pilot.. 'Shields to the fore!'

Ørn's recently completed Knight Titan army gets their first game on some of Per's lovely gaming terrain. Per uses most of his collection of Necrons to match the 2000 points Ørn was bringing. I had tagged along to take pictures and notes - and to 'remembrance' the account below. The combatants had agreed in advance to play a straight Kill Points game with a Dawn of War deployment. Since only one side has any Super Heavies, the rules from the Escalation book affording the Necrons +1 to Reserve rolls as well as giving them a Kill Point for every three Hull Points caused off any Super Heavy are in effect.

I'd also like to beg your pardon in advance, for any mix-up between Knights in the narrative below. I'm sure Ørn will be on hand in the morning, to help make any necessary corrections. ;)

We set the terrain up aiming to use as many different pieces as possible, to create a varied and interesting table. Ørn wins the roll off to choose table edge while Per takes the second roll-off and is able to force the Knights to set up first. Failing to roll the Warlord Trait that would allow a handful of Knights to Outflank, Ørn opts to spread out across the entire table with. He makes sure to keep each Knight within six inches of at least another one, to benefit from the improved Ion Shield save from shots in the Knights' front arc.

Per also spreads his army out across the width of his deployment zone, making sure to keep some distance between his heavy hitters; two Doomsday Arks and a unit of three Heavy Destroyers. Per sets up two units of Necron Warriors to fill out his centre, as well as one on each flank. A unit of Scarabs and a C'tan shard of the Nightbringer takes Per's right flank, while six Wraiths materializes just behind the Warriors on the extreme left. The Necron Overlord and his Immortals retinue is held back, to arrive by Deep Strike at an opportune moment.

After deployment is complete, the two gentlemen shakes hands across the table, before Per rolls the game's first six - to Steal the Initiative.

Round One

The Wraiths moves over the Warriors in front of them to get as close as possible to the Knight Paladin. The two Warrior squads in the centre march far enough ahead to make room for the Heavy Destroyers to get within range of the Knight Errant. The Doomsday Ark on the right and the Heavy Destroyers shoots at the Knight Errant while the other Doomsday Ark targets the Knight Warden. The Errant makes two Ion Shield saves against the Penetrating hits caused, while the last Arc misses.

All of the knights move up as far as their Difficult Terrain rolls allows. In his shooting phase, he uses two Knights to take out two of the Heavy Destroyers. The rest of the Super-Heavy Walkers expend all their shots on the Canoptek Wraiths, killing four.

0 - 0

Round Two

The Necron Overlord and his retinue of Immortals Deep Strike behind the Knight Castigator, and takes two Hull Points off it with their Gauss Blasters. The Necron Warriors in the centre shoots at the Knight Crusader, the shield saves the few glancing hits their Gauss Flayers cause. Both Doomsday Arks hits the Knight Castigator, but only one hull point is lost to the one Penetrating Hit caused. The two remaining Wraiths assaults the Knight Warden, but quickly gets stomped into oblivion. First Blood to Ørn!

The Knight Castigator turns about and advances on the Immortals that had cowardly attacked him from the rear. The Knight Errant shoots at the closest Doomsday Barge, failing to penetrate, and at the rearmost Warrior squad in the centre, killing three. The Knight Warden shoots at the closest Warrior squad, killing five, and kills the last Destroyer. The Crusader also shoots at the closest squad of Warriors, finishing it off. Bois-Guilbert shoots and kills four Immortals, before assaulting the Lord’s retinue. The Immortals prove impossible to wound in close combat, however. Even the Stomp attack fails to do any damage.

1 - 2

Round Three

The Necron infantry advances again, firing volleys at the Knights Warden and the Paladin. They take a Hull point off the Warden for their efforts. Both barges, as well as the C’tan Shard shoots at the Knight Warden, but the shield holds firm. The Castigator makes a Tempest attack before Stomping and kills another four Immortals, but not before loosing two Hull Points to the Necron Lord’s Warscyte.

The Knight line advances again, before opening fire. The Warden on the hill in the centre fires at the Warrior squad below, killing the last seven. The Crusader spreads its fire power among the C’tan shard, the warriors and the Ark on the right, but fails to do any damage. The Paladin fires its Battle Cannon at the Warriors in front of it. Both shells smash straight into the squad, and blows six warriors away. The Heavy stubbers kills another one, forcing them to fall back. The Errant fires his Melta Cannon at the Barge, scoring yet another Hit on the scatter dice but fails to penetrate. At the rear, the Castigator falls to the Necron Lord.

2 - 3

Round Four

The C’tan shard summons an Antimatter Meteor at the Knight Warden. One Doomsday Ark and the last warrior in the centre fires at the same Knight. The Ion shield saves every shot that rolls high enough to cause damage. The Warriors that fell back into the river regroups and shoots at the Knight Paladin, but also fails to penetrate anything. The Lord and last Immortal assaults the Knight Crusader, and the Scarabs assaults the Errant. The Lord causes a Penetrating hit, but only takes a Hull Point off the Knight. In return, the Knight Stomps one wound off the Necron Lord. The Errant hits and kills three bases of Scarabs before loosing two Hull Points in return. The Errant then stomps out the rest of the Scarabs.

The Knights Errant and Warden close in on the C’tan shard and the Necron Warriors. The Knight Paladin fires its battle Cannon at the Doomsday Ark and the Heavy Stubber at the Necron Warriors in the river. The Errant fires at the Warriors squad. The Melta cannon kills four, the Stubber another one. The Knight Warden fires his Avenger Gatling Cannon at the same Warriors squad, wiping the rest of the unit off the board, and then the Stormspear missiles at the C’tan, taking two wounds off it. The Knight Crusader swings and kills the last Immortal. It then loses three Hull Points to the Necron Lord’s Warschyte before stomping the Lord into the ground, earning Ørn Slay the Warlord. The Knight Paladin assaults and slays the last two Warriors in the river.

3 - 8

Round Five

The Doomsday Ark on the left flank fires at the Knight Errant, taking off one Hull Point. The C’tan shard summons another Antimatter Meteor at the Knight Crusader, but fails to penetrate. The Ark on the right flank misses its shot.

The Knights Errant moves to flank the C’tan shard, shooting its Battle Cannon and Avenger Gatling cannon. The Battle cannon fails to do any damage, but the Avenger takes the last two wounds off the Necrodermis construct. The Knight Errant advances to within melta range of the Doomsday Ark on the left flank, firing the Melta Cannon but rolling snake eyes to penetrate. The Warden then assaults the Doomsday Ark on the right flank and causes a Glancing Hit on the Impact Hit and another two with the Reaper Chainsword. The Paladin assaults the Doomsday Ark on the left flank and causes it to explodes with the Impact Hit.

3 - 11

Round Six

The doomsday Ark on the right flank remain stationary to shoot at the Knight Warden, taking another Hull Point off it.

In return, the Warden swings and cuts the last Doomsday Ark in half…

4 - 12

The final score is four Victory Points to the Necrons, versus a massive fourteen to the Knights.

- o - o -

The strange war machines and battle automata vanished as suddenly as they had appeared. Sir Brian de Bois-Guilbert's Castigator would likely never rise again and both Philip de Malvoisin's Errant and Sir Front de Boeuf's Crusader would need weeks in the restoration halls before being able to to take to the field again.

+ + + SIGNAL REACQUIRED + + +

There was still a chance to achieve the mission's primary objective, it seemed. It would fall to Sir Hugh de Bracy and Ralph de Vipont to complete it, and uphold the honour of House Hawkshroud...

Pre summer gaming summary and hobby challenge June

1 kommentarer
Again it has been a while since I have
played regularly, and by that I mean almost weekly gaming. However, after finishing my
Warriors of Chaos Army some time ago, I have been able to “get in” several 40K
games (and Fantasy games), so I guess I am “back in the saddle again”. Of course
focusing on 40K in this blogg, I decided to present another “quick summary” of
my recent games.

2000p Grey Knights with Imperial Guard
(Espen) vs Ultramarines

A very pleasant evening indeed! However, as
I soon discovered, my “Razorback/Vindicator list" is not the only army with decent
armour save / armour value and high output! We played two games.

Purge The Alien/Vanguard Strike. In game
one I was forced to split my units behind buildings in order to get cover first
two turns, meaning that my opponent could “castle” in one corner getting the
maximum out of each possible “fire lane” the city streets provided. I kept many
units in reserve, but when my Vindicators arrived and failed to inflict decent
damage, my army was picked apart. My opponent won a solid victory.

Crusade/Hammer and Anvil. In game two we
played on my desert gaming board. A more open battlefield, and it was time for the
Ultramarines to have their revenge…. – NOT. Again my Vindicators struggled to
get within range before they where shot to peaces by my opponents heavy tanks.
And even though I managed to hit a lot it does not really matter when that
second dice roll end up with 1-2… By all means, kudos to my opponent, his army
was “rock hard” and he played it well. My opponent again won a solid victory!

Next time Espen, next time :)

2000p Chaos Space marines (Jørn) vs Tyranids

During my last tournament I played a game against a Tyranid player who fielded a horde of Genestealers. It has been a while since I played this army so I decided to give them a go.

Crusade/Hammer and Anvil. It was all in – or nothing. The most memorable moment was Jørns face when he faced 60 Genestealers infiltrating as close as possible to his gun line:) At first the Tyranids made good progress, rapidly advancing on the Chaos line. But of course, the Chaos army “backed” a litle bit, showing of an impressive disciplined bolter drill action, weathering down the advancing units. The Nids eventually reached the Chaos battle line. But striking last due to assaulting through difficult terrain, the units that did get in to combat was over powered and killed. Victory to Chaos Space marines.

Note: A fun game, but I curse the f… that deprived the Nids of their old “Flesh Hooks” (assault grenades) in the new Codex Tyranids. What is the point of having an army that is "all about assault" if they are not good at it (rant/despair/and so forth…)?

-->
2000p Necrons (Tom-Erik) vs Ultramarines

It was time to bring forth an old army list, a list I have not played since 5th edition. Big Guns Never Tire/Vanguard Strike.

I must admit that I find Tom-Erik’s Necron list very fun to play against. With two flyers, two Stalkers, Two Barges and several “tar pit units”, it has become a hard nut to crack (for me anyway). First turn my “gun line” failed to do significant damage, and the Necrons advanced taking out over half of my tanks by the end of turn two (damn death ray, and mee not beeing more carefull)! But finally the Ultramarines remaining gun line elements rolled a decent average, laying waste to almost all but a Stalker that had advanced. The Ultramarines suddenly threatened the Necron main line and their objectives, the Necron now having to switch focus to a more defensive strategy. The game ended after turn 5, and the tally showed a victory for the Ultramarines.

Comment: This was a game where I managed to kill 4 of my own Plasma Marines....

-->
2000p Dark Eldar (André) vs Ultramarines

Again another “city fight”. Crusade/Vanguard Strike. The Dark Eldar massed in centre of their deployment zone, but seeing the Ultramarines castling in and around the “Shrine of Aquila”, they made a tactical retreat. Taking cover out of range from the Ultramarines, the Dark Eldar was a bit surprised when the Ultramarines reserves entered the game straight into the Dark Eldar battle line. Of course the “Ultramarines spearhead” assault was destroyed, but the spearhead managed to kill/destroy a decent tally of Dark Eldar before they where shot to pieces. And by the time the Dark Eldar had re arranged their battle line, the remaining Ultramarines had gotten a good footing on three of the five objectives, threatening a fourth objective. The Dark Eldar where forced to focus on securing the two remaining objectives, managing to kill of the smaller advancing units from the Ultramarines trying to contest the fourth. The game ended after turn 5, and the tally showed a victory for the Ultramarines.

Comment: Never ever have I managed to kill of so many of my own models due to 1 – 2 rolls on armour saves, in example: two times I rolled four 1 in a row! Got to get me some new dice....

What’s next? I pledge to finish my
Stormtalon Gunship by the end of June.

Cheers,

Tom-Erik`s April Hobby Challenge

1 kommentarer
This month I chose to get some new units done for the "hunker in the bunker" gaming event, the plan was to get a Monolith or Doomsday Ark for my 2000 point list, but I ended up with going for a second Stalker. I feel like i can get more from these spider things that can move around the table and stil get their deadly shoots off. Had some mixed experience with them so far, but they sure take a lot off heat from every one that has faced them, and the heavy gauss cannon give me some needed longe range fire power.

The second unite I have finished is the Deathmarks, and I love these robots! I all games when they have deep striked the right way, and not into close combat with a Defiler or 45 orks they have been great!
So need some more off these!
Their hit on 3+ and wound on 2+ against a marked unit is a killer, and they have rending...

That`s it for April, in May I think it might be a Necron break, and time to digg out some pointy ears stuff called the Void Dragons...

March Hobby challenges

3 kommentarer
Finally some time to write about this months hobby challenge, 2 days late.
It has been a very busy March with work and familly, but i manged to get some hobby stuff done!

First, I have almost finished my second building, need some more work on the base, and there wil be some statue in front of this building. Painting buildings is not my favorite thing to do....

I had to change some planes this month as I want to try some new necron stuff in games, which ment I needed to paint some new necrons, the deathmarks! The plan is to have a unit of 10, or 2 units of 6, depending on the game. Deep striking snipers that wounds a selected squad on 2, sounds good if I can use them the right way! I am also thinking about a monolith in my 2000 point army for the gaming weekend, any thoughts on that?
Anyhoooo here are the first 4 deathmarks, the rest is only primed.
