A pre Christmas game!

2000p Biel tan against 2000p Ultramarines.

What a game! One of the bloodiest battle – ever!

No – we did not manage to play 5 – 7 game turns; but high quality ones… Both a bit rusty – but we managed to help each other getting it right!

We have compered notes – before making this post. Ultramarines gun line – daunting, enormous firepower and alpha strike. However, the Biel tan held their ground. Far seer, Banshees, Dark reapers and Spiders – retaliated! 7:7.

Its all new (almost); units to look out fore:

- Banshees
- Warp Spiders
- Dark reapers
- Whirlwind
- Assault Marines
- Heavy Bolters (a lot of them…)
Marry Christmas!

Eldar windriders

With the new Eldar bikes models it was time for me to add som bikes to my Saim-Hann army, and off curse a Farseer on bike.
With the new codex they also have some new options, something called a Scatter laser that along with the Shuriken cannon will give this unit a lot off firepower.
I went with 5 bikes with a Farseer as the first Windriders  unit, 3 Shuriken cannon and 2 Scatter lasers, and with some "guide" from the Farseer this can be a threat to most infantry models.

As Saim-Hann are the Wild Host off the Eldars these bikes will not be the last, I am already working on some more bikes, and some Vypers to add some heavy weapons, that may scratch some Knight armour :-)
There is also a Warlock on bike on my painting table, I discovered in the last game that my Warlock needs to be a bit more mobile.

Small april update.

So a late and small update for April.
April was a crazy work month, So no big progress was made, but I got some work done.

The gaurdians colur scheme was planed and I painted the first 6, a simple and fast colur scheme was importent for me here. There will be about 30 gaurdians, so no plan to go into big details on them, So no white helmets :-)
A lot off Saim Hann gaurdians have black helmets, So this was my inspiration.

I also got some work done on my wraith knight, stil a lot off details left on him.
Not sure what to do with the gun, should I go black, red or somthing different? Any ideas?

For this month I need to finnish the knight and get some more Guardians done, was hoping to get started on my first wave serpent to.

And I need to play some game! Anyone up for some Eldar testing?

Escalation part 1

2 kommentarer
Finally a post from me again and finally some hobby progress.
Since I made up my mind to do another army after necrons I have been back and forth on what to do.
Chaos, nids, eldar..... so when we found out we would do escalation here, I found out this would be the perfect time to do this army thing. So I said I would go with my chaos army only to find out I had no drive and feel for that project. And that big Phantom Titan was staring at me all the time!!! So that gave me no choice, that thing deserves a new army. So Eldar it is! And the plan is to make the new army and while I keep painting the new guys, I can add them to my old eldar and get them faster on the battelfield.
For the first challenge I went with 5 wraithblades and 1 wraithlord. The first months will be a lot off wraiths....
As you can see I only finnished 4 blades, the reasson is that I air brush the first layers, So the last guy is in the next big batch off models to get brushed.

For the next month I will go a bit off the challenge rules, As I try to get 10 gaurdians and 1 wraithkinght done

A prelude to battle

Becra the Trueborn, gazed at the surveillance monitors. He cursed. The craftworld brethren had arrived through the web gate.

Their last battle against the demon horde had really put their fighting skills to the test. The end result was a defeat. Their archon was furious. No fresh prisoners to take back to the dark city. They had been tricked by those damned chaos sorcerers. He hated sorcerers. And now the craftworld brethren where closing in on their position, probably led by a pesky farseer. He called the archon to the command post and showed him the screen. They could clearly make out the large wraith constructs moving with astonishing grace for being so big. A grin appeared on the archons lips. Wraith constructs – easy pickings.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a high-pitched scream, followed by the unmistakable sound of heavy shuriken fire, tore up the ground around one of the venoms moving slowly as picket guard around their perimeter. The driver gunned his engines, but too late, two Bright Lance beams tore through the light hull, and the venom exploded in a ball of fire. With no anti aircraft weapons ready they could only watch as the Nightwing sped off, clearly showing the runes and colors of its Craft World - Biel-Tan.

The archon barked out his orders, and the entire Dark Eldar cabal mounted their vehicles. They would make sure that their craftworld brehtern would pay for their mistake. They moved as one. Their sleek craft moving effortlessly over the rugged terrain. They where ready. Becra checked his blaster. That farseer is mine to kill.

So now it`s up to Ørnulv and me to see what happens.
We are using our last tournament lists, so this should be interesting. Looking forward to tomorrow.

A great game (dinner and evening)!

Unfortunately several of the pictures I took were out of focus, but three of them turned out ok. First – deployment:

The Dark Eldar and Eldar was pretty even by the end of turn 3. But then - well this picture pretty much summons up the game… The Dark Eldar managed to take out both the Knights by the end of turn two, but had to give them so much attention that the rest of the Eldar got an upper hand in the fire flight. With flying tanks AV12 that shoot S7 D6+1 + ordinary weapons - together with to units of Warp Spiders performing a spectacular and - as usual - perfect deep strike. Well... AV 10 is no match in the long run. At least the Dark Eldar fared much better against this Eldar army than the one tested in August.

6 turns. Eldar got “Slay the Warlord” (the damn Arcon failing his 2+ save…), “First Blood” and held 2 Objectives. Dark Eldar held one objective.

Eldar 8p - Dark Eldar 3p.

Looking forward to our next game Trond!

Cheers,

The aftermath

Irilith watched as the Dark Eldar commanders shadow field buckled and ultimately failed from a bladestorm of shuriken fire from the Dire Avengers. Wounded but not dead, the Archon raised his blaster and with a precise shot, wrecked the nearby wavserpent. The Farseer, too far away with his guardian sqd, focused on taking down another venom. Irlith ordered his own wavserepent to advance and try to kill the archon. With it`s brighlance destroyd, de pilot de-activated the protective Wave Shield and launched the destructive energies at the wounded archon taking cover in the wreck of his venom transport. Ignoring the cover the wave energies flattende the proud Dark eldar commander. The Warp Spiders took a pounding and lost over half of their totalt number, but the last 4 spiders killed of the last whyches who desperately tried to assault their position on top of the 4 objective.

Becra climbed out of his destroyed Venom. Their Archon was dead, the rest of their forces where scattered, wounded or dead. What happened? They had gotten the initiative, the cover of darkness, and they had dispatched those towering wraith constructs. Those constructs did though take a lot more punishment than any other wraith construct he had encountered before.

Taking charge of the remainder of his sqd of Kabalite Trueborn, they withdrew back to safety. In his mind, he had already started to plan ahead, a smile appeared. His personal gain hadn`t been too bad. The archon and his most trusted warriors where all dead. The rise to power would be a lot easier now that the opposition was taken care of...
He still hated psykers and sorcerers. One day he would make them pay!

Summer challenge

2 kommentarer
So the new Eldar is out, and Apocalypse is out next month.
Time to brush off the eldars and start this Titan madness!
I have now buildt up a lot of Eldars, and starting to build the corsairs now.
After my recent airbrush course I realy would like to try and paint yellow, hellow Iyanden ghosts! I am not happy with my blue on the Titan, so I will repaint those legs.

For this summer, June and July my goal is to finnish 20 guardians, 20 corsairs, 1 Hornet and the new Eldar flyer. And repaint my Titan legs!

This army is going to be pure background based, so no power gaming, not even sure it will ever win a game :-)
This craftworld is on the brink off destruction, and the army is going to look like it would when their world is attacked by stupid humans. A lot of guardiens, some aspects, and all their dead guys! Oh, and some Titans to save the day.
The plan is to have the Sky Raiders Corsair war band as a allied army, typical some flyers, walkers, warriors, and looks like they have a lynx???

I hope to have some progress pictures in a weeks time. Need some feedback on the first models when I have them ready!

So good luck to me, and I hope for a rainy summer :-)

Easter holiday gaming summary

2 kommentarer

As mentioned in a previous post, I have mostly spent the last couple of months building terrain and two new gaming tables. This work has been fun (but time consuming), so it felt good to have played a couple of games again. This is a quick summary and a couple of pictures from my last four games.

3000p Orks (Inger Helene) vs Ultramarines (two organisation charts)

A game initiating my new city gaming board, some time before Easter. We played “Crusade” with 5 objectives and used “Dawn of War” deployment. It is always fun to play with so many (finished) models. But it is time consuming. Especially since there where some time since both Inger Helene and I had played together. But we picked up the “slack” pretty quick. This game where particularly bloody. In example the Big Mek with Shock Attack Gun killed 8 marines in one shot turn one, and a pop shot from a Razorback blew up a Ork Battle Wagon turn one! Units where slaughtered all over the place by the end of turn two. We did not manage to finish the game. We have both have had a hard working period, resulting in us finishing mid way after agreeing on a draw. However, we decided on a rematch with the same army lists during April or early May.

2000p Dark Eldar (André) vs Ultramarines (one organisation chart)

We played “Purge The Alien” and used “Hammer and Anvil” deployment. André wanted to play on the desert table. I used an army list that I have tested a couple of times. It has more variety than I have used earlier (a take all comers list). Andre used his “standard take all comers” army. As usual André and myself “lurked” around the two first couple of turns, but suddenly there where bitter fire fighting all across the table.

After 5 turns the game ended:

Ultramarines 11 – Dark Eldar 6

2000p Chaos Space Marines (Linus) vs Dark Eldar (one organisation chart)

We played The Emperor’s Will and used “Vanguard Strike” deployment. Linus wanted to play on the city table. Having played Ultramarines two times in a row, I used my Dark Eldar army. The army is slightly altered from my “standard list”, using a flyer and kiting the warlord for close combat, having to reduce the number of squads. Linus played a “fun MSU list”, including Chosen, and lots of zombies. The Chaos Marines pushed real hard in turn one – three, with Typhus and he’s Terminator Squad deep striking behind/into the Dark Eldar line. Focusing all attention on first the Daemon Prince, then Typhus and his terminators, the Dark Eldar managed to turn the battle, grinding the Chaos army apart.

After 5 turns the game ended:

Dark Eldar 6 – Chaos Space Marines 0

2000p Eldar (Trond) vs Ultramarines (one organisation chart)

We played “Crusade” and used “Hammer And Anvil” deployment. Having played Dark Eldar the day before this game, I reverted to my Space Marines, eager to have ago with them against Tronds´  Eldar army. By turn two the Eldar army had two units of Warp Spiders in my deployment line, War Walkers on one of my flanks, a Jetfighter in front of me and a unit with Harlequins in assault range next turn…. And as if that was not bad enough he had multiple small units and two Fire Prisms guarding three (out of a total of five objectives) in his own deployment zone. But the blessings were upon the Ultramarines (and their dice) this battle, and the Ultramarines slowly regained momentum and got the upper hand. One thing that was fun was taking the risk and declaring using the psychic ability “Gate of Infinity” (rolling three dice) and deep striking/transporting 10 marines and the Librarian straight into the Eldar deployment zone. Great fun, must try that again some time.

By turn four the Eldar general felt the end result was so definite, he decided to end the game:

Ultramarines 9 – Eldar 6

Looking forward to more gaming!

Cheers,
Ørnulv
