More often than not, there is a significant amount of time to be saved in the long run by building/painting several models at once. If you actually have time enough available to actually take on mre than one at a time, though.
For this year's Adepticon I needed just one more Drop Pod to supplement the four I made two years ago. I have yet another few built and undercoated, but I didn't think I'd have the time to complete more than one so they will have to await their turn in... later this year, hopefully. I may even have to go back over this one again, or perhaps the four from before, then to bring a few detail back into line across the set.
This one, earmarked for the Devastator squad from a few weeks ago, will be joining the first batch as we're starting to pack up for the trip across The Pond. Now, if only that Primer Missions document could drop...

Crimson Fists Land Speeder
The unit I hinted at being the next one - last time - is taking a little longer to complete than anticipated...
Who would have thought that hitting the same level of wear and tear as with the batch from a couple of years back could prove to be any sort of a challenge?
This Land Speeder hardly took any time at all to complete, however. I built and painted it during the week leading up to our last gaming-weekend at Ørn's place. It's actually taken longer to take a couple of pictures and to type up this little blurb.
We're all taking one along to Adepticon this year, as a cheap and fast no-really-that-threatening objective grabber for our Team Tournament games. Whichever one survives the most games - or any at all - gets a Purity Seal when we get back home! :P

Crimson Fists Librarian
It seems I've been holding out on you...
It's been completely unintentinally though, I assure you.
In-between working on the new bases for my Crimson Fists and building and painting the two Tactical Marines equipped with Multi-meltas for the "I am Alpharius" event in Nottingham earlier this year, I also 'threw together' a new Librarian model to replace the one I'd made for Adepticon 2014. In the rush to get ready to go to Warhammer World, I seem to have forgotten about posting pics of the model.
The previous Librarian model served me well at the Team Tournament, but I felt that it was lacking a few details, and wanted to make a new one to correct those. Mainly, the lack of a visible Psychic Hood and a proper Force weapon bothered me.
Time was as short before the event as the one I prepared the previous one for, and I didn't have any of the new Librarian models on hand. I did have a handful of Grey Knights Bitz squirreled away, however, so I used those to build a more suitable Codicier. The left shoulder bears one of the Imperial/Crimson Fists shoulder pads from Forge World, while on the right one I've put one from the CSM Bikers kit. Loading my old GW hobby knife with a fresh scalpel blade, I cut away the arrow, leaving the horned skull symbol of the Librarium in place.

Crimson Fists Grav-Devastators revisited
So... After googling quite a few pictures, I had a few ideas of what I wanted to do with the Grav Cannons. The first two didn't work out, so I went back to a little more refined version of my original concept; Vallejo Model Air Light Green base lightened with White from the same range. I layered the paint in progressively more narrow lines along the barrel, and finished off with Black Ink into the recesses.
All in all... A distinct improvement, even though I see that I still need to fix the 'bleed' around the eye lenses. (Damn you, camera!)

Crimson Fists Grav-Devastators
Preparations for the Adepticon 2017 Team Tournament is well underway. We're all making some adjustments to the lists we brought back in 2015, so there's a few new units that needs paint. I built, primed and basecoated a lot of models during the summer, so 'all' I have to do is to select the models I need and finish them. ;) ...even if it does take a while at the rather slow pace I'm keeping these days.
Over the last few weeks, I've been working on a Devastator squad with Grav Cannons. They may not be the most efficient platform for this particular heavy weapon, but there are ways around their shortcomings - and I think they look cool.
Looking at the pictures now, I'm less and less happy with how the attempted glow effect on the cannons themselves came out. It looks OK from a few feet off, but up close it just looks messy... I'll have to do a little research and figure something out before getting get back to them.

Crimson Fists Devastator Centurions
The colour-scheme for the Crimson Fists sure is a different kind of exercise than painting my Word Bearers or Khorne Daemonkin.
There's a lot of fun to be had in feeling my way through painting an unfamiliar colour scheme. It does take time, though.
Anyways... Here they are, the tre 'little brothers' to last month's Venerable Dreadnought.
I do realize, now that I'm looking at the pictures above, that I may need to revisit the chapter and tactical icons on their shoulder pads. They're not quite as blurred-looking in reality, but a little more definition may be in order...
Next? Time to revisit some basic Troops, I think...

Crimson Fists Venerable Dreadnought

First model out is a Venerable Dreadnought. It's designed to go up close and personal, with a Multi-melta and Power Fist with Heavy Flamer. I suppose I'll have to find some way to transport it to where I need it to go before I start expecting it to actually do something on the table, but I already have something in the works to handle that. ;)
Next... Either a big brother, or a handful of little brothers.

Linus' Raven Guard project part 1
So, finally a unit finalizing first step in a hopefully longlived and fun hobby project.
Sorry for the bad pics - black is't easy. I guess the best would be somwhere between the ones with flash and the ones without,

I know there is no such thing as weathering or other worn effects here. Not sure I want that. What do you think? I will be using som weathering techniques on some vehicles, though...

Next up: Shrike, Korvidae and Solaq, then a couple of vehicles and of course finishing the knight from last summer.
Cheers

Black Templars - Landraider Redeemer and Assault Terminators with Chaplain
In order to get my Black Templars army up to 1500p, I decided to build a Landraider Redeemer.
To accompany it I decided to go with Assault Terminators, and of course, a Chaplain in terminator armour.
Next project, Ironclad Dreadnought:)

Logan had gathered his company
commanders and battle leaders in one of the great halls of Fenris. As always, someone
where missing out, on missions in the name of Russ and the Emperor.
A scribe entered the hall, moving
silently towards Logan. He bowed and handed over a datasleet. Logan studied the
message; he handed it over to Njal and demanded attention! The room fell
silent. “Brothers, we have been called to aid our battle brothers of the
Ultramarines, Crimson fist and the Black Templars”! A commotion started in the
room, insults were uttered and Ragnar started laughing.
Bjorn took a step forward and again
the room fell silent. Njal and Logan looked at each other. Harald, this task is
yours. Ragnar drew his breath as if to speak out, but was cut short by Logan.
Even though this requires drop pod deployment, we recognize the use of Harald
and his wolves as a key element in this mission. “Muster your force and be
ready to launch as soon as possible”.
The old wolf looked back at Logan,
he grinned and revealed his canine teeth. “I will make sure that this will be a
saga to remember”!

Crimson Fists for Adepticon 2015
It started on the plane back from Adepticon 2014. As we settled into our seats for the long trans-Atlantic flight back east we were talking about what had been our favourite events at the con.
We'd taken part in a couple of tournaments, shopped as well as taken a handful of classes. We'd gone sightseeing the days prior to Adepticon kicking off, while our biological clocs were ajusting.
What we all agreed on was our Main Event, though, was the Team Tournament. Lots of cool people! Squaring off against cool, themed and good-looking armies. It was a blast, and we knew we had to do it again.
This time we'd do a couple of things differently, though...
We would take a properly themed force - and we would beware the Kraken! ;)
A few ideas were tossed around, but the choice quickly fell on Space Marine armies. We'd all choose a different Chapter and take thirty to forty models - mainly deployed via Drop Pods.
Over the course of the following year, a lot of list building took place. In-between a lot of sidetracking and procastination, models were bought, buildt and painted.
Now, just two weeks before we kick off again, I can present my Crimson Fists:
I'm taking a Codicier with a squad of Sternguard Veterans. There's also two Tactical squads. All three have Drop Pods. Finally there's a tank-hunting Devastator squad, backed up by a Techmarine with a Thunderfire cannon.
See you in a couple of weeks!

Black Templars army – complete
Finally:) It was decided, on our final day at Adepticon 2014, to field a Space Marines army in 2015. 4 Generals – four army’s. I opted for the Black Templars, an army I have always admired, both the painting scheme and the fluff.
My 1000p army consists of 3 Crusader Squads (two Melta and one Plasma squad), and one Sternguard (Sword Brethren) squad - all in Drop Pods. As my general I chose to go with a Chaplain (of course). Finally, a Thunder Fire Cannon for some serious ump!
I am looking forward to fielding them in battle.
This is how my army turned out:
Crusader Squad with Drop Pod |
Stearnguard Veterans with Drop Pod |
Thunder Fire Cannon and my Chaplain |
The whole army |
What next? I hear the roar of engines…

Ultramarines Ironclad Dreadnought / Venerable Dreadnought
I never
seem to be able to finish my Ultramarines army. I guess there are so many bits and left
overs, that I am compelled to try to use them before moving on to new
projects.
I went
through my bit box, and found that I had enough parts to make yet another
Dreadnought (# 4). My previous ones consist of two ordinary Dreadnoughts, and
one Venerable Dreadnought, with all the various weapons magnetized. Then I got
the idea of a storyline linked to my last Librarian build; A couple of weeks
ago I finished a “pimped” / “vane” Librarian with lots of scrolls, Servitor
Skulls and a beige robe. What if I made a model representing him honoured with
“Dreadnought armour”? My Librarian being quite taken with “bling”, I am sure
the Tech Marines and Servitors where only happy to apply them selves in order to make
him stand out on the battlefield!
Making the
option for him to be fielded in a Venerable dreadnought was a no brainer,
however, I wanted to try to make one build I did not have in my collection – an
Ironclad Dreadnought. I gave nothing against GW, I love the models and the
game, however – I do want to put a limit to purchasing models and part,
deciding to try to add various bits left over from previous projects in order
to make a model that could represent an Irenonclad Dreadnought.
First out I
had to change the Sarcophagus, deciding to use venerable parts in order to make
him more “bulky”. I also added skulls on top of him to i) create bling and ii)
that could represent the Ironclad “grenade launchers”. I had a large left over Forge World Skull that I thought
would look cool on the front armour.
I filed
down the front armour plate, filled it with Tamiya putty, sanded it level, and
glued on the skull.
Some work
in progress pictures:
Preparing
parts to build the body
|
Various
bits – choosing parts in a creative, as "I go along process"
|
The skull
and front plate (before sanding)
|
It’s coming

|
I fitted
extra plating to both arms in order to make the model more bulky than the
normal build, also representing - “Iron clad”. Now how to scratch build a Seismic
Hammer? I turned the Missile launcher arm in the opposite direction (from left to right arm), removed
some parts, and used the Drill bits from the Centurion kit, some left over cables and the
landing gear from the Storm Eagle flyer set. I magnetized a Heavy Flamer and a
Meltagun so they can be fitted under the arm. And of course, servo skulls, old
left over Forge World Ultramarines ornaments, and finally scrolls where added.
And this is
how the finished model looks like:
All arms
are magnetized, and he can also be kited with a Lascannon, Assault cannon with
flamer ore a Multimelta. On these arms I only added scrolls and some more
subtle ornament parts, in order to be able to keep the basic idea of this old
Librarian now being a Venerable Dreadnought.
What to do
next?
I have 5
Sniper Scouts, but want to build them with Bolters, and am working on how to refit
the Rifles with Bolters. But then again, there is an old industrial complex
with narrow corridors and confined compartments that are sending out a distress
signal…
Cheers,
Ørnulv
