Eldar Corsairs Fire Dragons – Ørnulvs #2 Project 2015

In my previous “Eldar Corsairs” post back in January, I stated: “Time to bring on some heat…”

So, finally, they are done – my Fire Dragons. My progress have been slow because I got involved in a joint venture in order to get our army’s ready for the Team Tournament at Adepticon (lots of fun, se separate posts).

Anyway, as previously stated, my goal is to make my Eldar Corsairs look grim, almost Dark Eldar like, but at the same time with a clear link to the traditional Aspect Warrior colours. For my Fire Dragons I chose to go with a dark reed metallic look in the same painting style as my Dark Eldar (and the Wave Serpents). I chose to go with a dark brownish metal and bone white fore the same reasons.

These Finecast models where very detailed, and actually a pleasure to paint (after green stuffing the small holes that are found on this type of models). Drilling and pinning to the stone bases worked out fine. Always a challenge to hard-line and then using metal washes to blend it all together. Nothing really turns out exactly as I want it to, but I am pretty ok with the result. Anyway, this is how they turned out.

Space Wolves - Adepticon 2015

Logan had gathered his company commanders and battle leaders in one of the great halls of Fenris. As always, someone where missing out, on missions in the name of Russ and the Emperor.

A scribe entered the hall, moving silently towards Logan. He bowed and handed over a datasleet. Logan studied the message; he handed it over to Njal and demanded attention! The room fell silent. “Brothers, we have been called to aid our battle brothers of the Ultramarines, Crimson fist and the Black Templars”! A commotion started in the room, insults were uttered and Ragnar started laughing. 

Bjorn took a step forward and again the room fell silent. Njal and Logan looked at each other. Harald, this task is yours. Ragnar drew his breath as if to speak out, but was cut short by Logan. Even though this requires drop pod deployment, we recognize the use of Harald and his wolves as a key element in this mission. “Muster your force and be ready to launch as soon as possible”. 

The old wolf looked back at Logan, he grinned and revealed his canine teeth. “I will make sure that this will be a saga to remember”!

As I am sure you all have understood by now, my Adepticon 2015 Space Wolves army is now finished.

 

Crimson Fists for Adepticon 2015

It started on the plane back from Adepticon 2014. As we settled into our seats for the long trans-Atlantic flight back east we were talking about what had been our favourite events at the con.

We'd taken part in a couple of tournaments, shopped as well as taken a handful of classes. We'd gone sightseeing the days prior to Adepticon kicking off, while our biological clocs were ajusting.

What we all agreed on was our Main Event, though, was the Team Tournament. Lots of cool people! Squaring off against cool, themed and good-looking armies. It was a blast, and we knew we had to do it again.

This time we'd do a couple of things differently, though...

We would take a properly themed force - and we would beware the Kraken! ;)

A few ideas were tossed around, but the choice quickly fell on Space Marine armies. We'd all choose a different Chapter and take thirty to forty models - mainly deployed via Drop Pods.

Over the course of the following year, a lot of list building took place. In-between a lot of sidetracking and procastination, models were bought, buildt and painted.

Now, just two weeks before we kick off again, I can present my Crimson Fists:

I'm taking a Codicier with a squad of Sternguard Veterans. There's also two Tactical squads. All three have Drop Pods. Finally there's a tank-hunting Devastator squad, backed up by a Techmarine with a Thunderfire cannon.

Transport tiles – Adepticon 2015

As mentioned in an earlier post, 4 of the TSB members are travelling to Chicago in March – attending “Adepticon 2015”. Upon leaving the Adepticon event in 2014, we decided to field four Space Marines chapters, and I took the job making bases for all the models so the forces would be “coherent”.

We also wanted to bring “transport tables” for a better presentation of our forces, and that would make it easer to manoeuvre around during the event. We decided not to use wood boards ore sand, since we will have to bring them in our suitcases. At the same time we needed sturdy tiles.

It was a project that fell onto me. I suggested the GW Realm of battle table extension sets. We found that the 2 X 2 tiles where to large for an ordinary suitcase, so Jørn brought forth he’s electric saw… (cutting of one tile edge 6")

After filing and sanding the edge of the tiles, I washed them thoroughly (including using mineral spirits), and base coated them with GW Chaos Black Spray. I retrieved some dark brown paint from earlier table projects, and painted the tiles.

I then started dry brushing the stone eras using VGC Stone grey.

The tiles where dry brushed with VGC Desert yellow, then VGC Pale sand. The skulls where dry brushed VGC Pale Sand and again using a mix of VGC Pale Sand and VGC White. The tiles where then washed with my “goup mix” (resembling a dark version of VCA Burnt Umber) thinned in water and mixed with PVA glue. Finally, the tiles where given a solid coat of GW Satin Warnish (Purity seal). This is how they turned out.

What next? Something for our troops to home in on…

Black Templars army – complete

Finally:) It was decided, on our final day at Adepticon 2014, to field a Space Marines army in 2015. 4 Generals – four army’s. I opted for the Black Templars, an army I have always admired, both the painting scheme and the fluff.

My 1000p army consists of 3 Crusader Squads (two Melta and one Plasma squad), and one Sternguard (Sword Brethren) squad - all in Drop Pods. As my general I chose to go with a Chaplain (of course). Finally, a Thunder Fire Cannon for some serious ump!

I am looking forward to fielding them in battle.
