Crimson Fists Tactical Squad III

Progress!!!

Getting this squad done marks an important milestone on the Road to Adepticon 2017. While I'm not currently planning on fielding all ten Marines in the squad, there's no good reason to do less than a full squad as far as I'm concerned...

I have taken the edge highlights 'a bit' farther on this squad compared to the first two squads I painted up for Adepticon 2015. I'm not really regretting it - yet - but it will be interesting to see them on the table alongside squads I and II this weekend. I realise I will probably have to go over the previously completed squads one more time, to bring them up to the same standard as this one.

There are a few other models that need my attention before I can get into that, though...

Next up: No Space Marine company is complete without a Captain...

At first I thought that it had been a relatively unproductive year. But once I started counting the projects that I have finished, I quickly got into a far better mood.

The focus of 2016 was to expand my Dark Eldar and Eldar / Eldar Corsairs. Time consuming to paint, but lots of fun. So, what did I finish?

2 Eldar / Eldar Corsairs HQ

2 Warwalkers

15 Hellions

15 Dark Eldar Jetbikes

6 Eldar / Eldar Corsairs Jetbikes

3 Talos / Chronos

2 Wrack gunners

Haemonculus

Razorwing Jetfighter

Voidraven Bomber

5 Wraithguard

Re-arming 4 Scourges

Phew! I also had to make some new NIDS models preparing for a GW Tournament in Nottingham:

2 Malanthropes

Mawloc

And of course, my beloved Ultramarines got a huge expansion with 6 new pods:

And if that was not enough, I built and primed 5 Scouts, 20 Sternguard Veterans, 10 Devastators, 5 Assault Terminators, 5 ordinary Terminators and 5 Terminators in Cataphractii armour. They are gazing at me as I am currently working on them…

When it comes to gaming however, I have not been as active as I have wanted to be. A 2-day tournament in Warhammer world, a couple of friendly games and I have hosted 4 TSB gaming weekend events. Not to bad, but I would like to play more during 2017 than I did in 2016.

As long as I am on that subject, the whole of TSB are coming around to my house this weekend for a game event preparing 4 of us for our trip to Adepticon 2017.

Cheers,

Still in the hobby, though not many games played or models finished last year. Read a few books, subscribed to and really impressed with the new White Dwarf, followed several great podcasts, acquired (too) many boxes of fantastic models and was really pleased with the updates for the Chaos Space Marines which most certainly will mean a rebirth of my existing Death Guard army.

But I started on a completely new long term project back in February and march though, managing to finish a tactical squad (!) from the Raven Guard third company – The Ghoststalkers. And assembling, priming two new tactical squads, as well as three Drop Pods, a Land Speeder and a Culexus assassin.

The project goes on, now having primed a further 52 models, 45 of them Vanguard vets and Scouts respectively, the last seven the beautiful Sisters of Silence and a couple of ICs from the first Horus Heresy box set.

More is in the works, and lots of painting to look forward to this year. The Triumvirate trio is finding its way to my workbench in a few days, making an exciting add-on to my imperial army. We’ll see how many models I can finish this year. My biggest problem is probably being able to keep focussed and reach the finish line...

I hope I will manage to squeeze in at least one game a month this year - and attend the obligatory TS social events directed by the Eagle Wolf himself. And of course, I must contribute more to our blog...

More than a little late to the party with this, but I was... away... far away for the end of the year, when I'm usually working on my yearly review post.

For me, 2016 has been a year of divided attentions. While I've mainly been painting Crimson Fists, most of my games last year was with the Khorne Daemonkin. I hope to be able to refocus on the Word Bearers later in 2017, now that the Traitor Legions codex is out.

My attention will remain on the Crimson Fists for the first quarter, though, as Inger Helene, Trond, Ørn and I are taking our loyalist Space Marines to the Team Tournament again this year. Most of us still have at least a little painting to do before then, not to mention play-testing and locking down our lists. I'm sure we'll get it done in time - hopefully with time to spare.

While the finished Crimson Fists last year did take a serious bite out of the number of models I built and base-coated this summer, I still have enough to keep me occupied until Spring. Especially if I'm going to get a few new units for my Word Bearers done too.

Now to catch up on my blog backlog, so I can get back to painting...

PS: I totally forgot to mention that the blog passed 100.000 views between Christmas an New Years. A little over 25K of those are made from USA, while the home crowd takes second place with close to 17K hits from Norwegian users.
