Jørn's 2014 in review

It's time, once again, to have a quick look over my shoulder to see what I happened this past year in the hobby, and perhaps compare it to what I had planned to do. Last year's review and pledges for this year can be found here.

I'll leave it to the other pledgers to go through their own year, but for my own part I fear I have more failures than successes to report:

Finishing the Basilica de Veteris.
If this project has moved anywhere, it has moved backwards. I removed the entire structure from its elavated Jackofoam base over the summer, but never decided on (how to construct) a replacement base. Since the structure is so large, I will have to divide it into four separate pieces for storage. I don't even dare think about transportability at this point.

Finishing another 1500 point/ of Traitor Guard, to bring them to at least 2000 points.
I haven't run the numbers for the models I do have, but I'm not sure if I have 500 points of Astra Militarum Traitor Guard. Then there's the new list in Imperial Armour 13... I should really study that a bit closer, to decide on a theme that fits the models I have on hand - both Guard and Chaos Space Marines.

Playing 40 games of 40K.
Not quite... I've played 30 games of 40K against almost half that number of opponents. Eight of those games were played at Adepticon in Chicago, and only ten were played using the 7th edition ruleset. I have been turning down at least half a dozen game offers lately, because I've wanted to focus on preparations for next Adepticon 2015.

Finishing the Chaos Warhound Titan, and play at least one game of Apocalypse with it.
While we never got around to playing any Apocalypse battles this year, I did manage to finish my Warhound Titan. It has been languishing downstairs in 'the cave' all year, staring at me every time I poke my head in the door.

+ - + - +

So what did I produce this year? One superheavy and fifteen Terminator'ish models, it seems...
I've got to be able to do better next year!!!

  1. Initially I thought I to was way behind my pledge for 2014. My goals for 2014 was:

    Primary:
    1) Ultramarines; finish new Tactical Sergeant’s, a Centurion Squad, a Storm Raven Gunship and two veteran Squads - Done.
    2) NIDS; Update the army according to the new codex. I have re armed several units, and built two Hive Crones / Harpies, so I guess - Done.
    3) Play 25 games of 40K. I have not achieved more than approximately 20, so – No.
    4) Attend one tournament. I attended two tournaments at Adepticon, so – Done.
    5) Host 2-3 gaming events. I hosted 2 events, so – Done.
    Secondary:
    a) Build and paint 2 super heavies to my NIDS army. I only finished the Harridan, so – No.
    b) Rebase my Warhound Scout Titan – Done.
    c) Design my Imperial Guard list. I did, but chose to with Eldar in stead, so – eh…

I also finished a makeover of my Ultramarines army, and added: Drop pod, Dreadnought, Librarian, Bike Squad, and built and painted a new ruin. So all in all, not to bad…

What about 2015? My goals are:
    1) To finish my Eldar Corsair war band
    2) To finish my zone mortalis gaming table
    3) To host 2 40K gaming events
    4) To attend one tournament
    5) To play 20 games of 40K
    6) Finish a new project

So, what are the other TSB members plan doing in 2015?

    Cheers,
    Ørnulv

  2. Well, not much progress in 2014 from this side of the gaming table. I've painted some 400 points of slaaneshi footsloggers and a herald, and have a long way before the daemons are near the 2k of tabletop ready models I would like. I have some goals for 2015 though ...

    1) To finish painting 1.5-2K of daemons (the horrors, some big machines and greater daemons should do the trick) - gliding over to a new project - A Black Legion warband is extremely tempting and probably the most sensible thing.
    2) Play 10 games
    3) Attend all TS events
    4) Make a functioning and probably mobile airbrush station

  3. By the way, in addition to painting and modelling progression, during 2014 I read a total of 8 Horus Heresy novels, plus dembsky-Bowden's Talon of Horus. I bought all codices (not fully read though), HH2 and HH3 and IA13. My goal for 2015 when it comes to reading is to read 10 HH novels plus dive deeper into the Horus Heresy gaming books.

  4. I should probably post a few goals of my own too, now that everyone's had a week and a half to get theirs in...

    So, for 2015 I pledge...
...to have my thousand points for the Adepticon 2015 Team Tournament finished and playtested before we leave.
...to expand the army to 1750 in time for September's Invasion tournament in Kristiansand.
...to finally write and play a series of narrative games with my Word Bearers versus Ørns Ultramarines. We've certainly been wanting to for long enough now.

That last pledge is sure to demand a fair bit of building and painting too, so I'll leave it at that.

May 2015 be a productive year for all of us!
