Word Bearers 'Noise Marines' II - Jørn's April Hobby Challenge (Architecture of Aggression XXXIV)

After a week of prodding old miniatures sitting around in the closest thing to Simple Green we've got and a week of too short evening painting sessions, I managed to finish a unit of Sonic Blaster wielding Noise Marines just in time for this past weekend's 'Hunker in the Bunker'. (More on that later, I'm sure.)

I was holding off on posting until after this weekend, but now that the cat's out of the bag anyway there's no point in putting it off any longer. I'll have to test them out in a few games before I decide if they're getting shelved (or 'foamed' rather) or if I'll be fleshing the unit out to ten - or even twelve, to be fluffy.

  1. I recognise them, from a time when they rushed forward with their rhinoes, sending freaky damonettes into the enemy! As always very nice paint job in a colour scheme that works really well! Impressed of the job of stripping of paint and redoing. Must meet them in a near future ;)

  4. Thanks, everyone!

These models were first painted back in the early 2000s. They had a coat of Chaos Black Primer, a few coats of various GW paints (Tentacle Pink being the most obvious one) and a couple of coats of GWs old Matt Varnish.

I had them soaking in 'Krystal Grønnsåpe' for a little under a week, and it loosened everything to the point where a few minutes with lukewarm water and an old toothbrush removed everything down to the primer. It also turned the superglue brittle enough that I could just scrape/pick it off with a hobby knife.

That meant I had to reattach the arms, and was reminded of how incredibly poorly they actually fit onto the plastic CSM torso. The solution? Pin it! Pin the hell out of it!!! ;)

  5. Noise marines.... hmmf. :) Revisiting the old days? They did indeed serve you well back in the days. What`s next? Asmodeus ;)

  6. Hmm... Bringing Asmodeus back for a spin could be fun, but he'd have to be rebased at the very least.

As it is, though, I think he'd be better off in a Chaos Daemons army instead...

  7. ...and if anyone wants to see how they used to look, it seems my old Pbase-gallery is still up:

  8. This was probably the only unit that did NOT survive the Necrons last weekend :-)

I remember playing a Emperors children army in 3 and 4th edition how good these guys were. Shooty, and high initiative and offcurse the demonetts that always came up close to them!
